Former cricket star Abu Fuard dies
Former All Ceylon and Sri Lanka cricketer Abu Fuard passed away last
evening after a prolonged illness. He was 75 years old at the time of
his demise.
Fuard who served the Board of Control for Cricket in various
capacities during the late Gamini Dissanayke administration from
Selector to Manager was an automatic choice in the national team due to
his top class off spin bowling and useful batting during his hay days in
the 1960's.
Fuard mesmerized many a top class Test batsmen with his tantalizing
spin whenever they played on Sri Lankan soil during their 'whistle stop'
matches prior to Sri Lanka gaining Test status and made most of his
appearances under the late C. Ivers Gunasekera and Michael Tissera.
Janaza leaves residence for burial at the Kuppiyawatte Cemetery at 9
am. today
