Showers forecast

The Meteorology Department has forecast heavy showers in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North Central, Eastern and Uva provinces and Galle and Matara districts.

There will be showers in some areas accompanied by thunder and lightning and the wind velocity will be 60 kilometres per hour. A spokesman for the Department cautioned the public to be vigilant over thunder strikes.

Heavy showers were experienced in several parts of the country during the past few days.

This had arisen due to the low pressure created by the South Western monsoon, the spokesman said.

The Western, Sabaragamuwa provinces and Galle and Matara districts will also experience heavy showers in the mornings while the North Central, Eastern, Uva and Sabaragamuwa provinces will experience heavy showers and thunder in the evenings. The reservoir areas, however, will not experience any rain, he said.
