Satyagraha against animal sacrifice

A peaceful protest campaign organised by the Multi Religious Alliance for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals against animal sacrifice is scheduled to be held today in Chilaw. Several religious organisations such as the Jathika Sangha Sammelanaya as well as animal welfare groups are expected to participate in this campaign.

The protest follows a signature campaign conducted in August 2011, which collected over 600,000 signatures islandwide, appealing to President Mahinda Rajapaksa to ban animal sacrifice by law.
