President Mahinda Rajapaksa is the only leader who understands the
heart-beat of the people. Only by supporting the Government, the
development goals of this country can be achieved, Democratic Labour
Party Leader S. Sathiyenthira told the Sunday Observer.
Sathiyenthira said his party would give the fullest cooperation to
the Government at the Eastern Provincial Council election. Party members
have commenced door-to-door campaigning in support of the Government in
the Eastern Province.
The party consists of 2,000 members. Plans are afoot to expand the
party to other parts of the country in the future.
The Government has implemented major livelihood and infrastructure
development projects in the North at a cost of billions of rupees. It is
our duty to make the public in these provinces aware of these projects,
he said. Sathiyenthira said the Government has paid special attention on
the development of the Northern and Eastern Provinces parallel to other
provinces.
His party will support the Government at future Presidential, General
and Local Government elections, he said.He also plans to contest the
general election. “I have planned to set up party offices in other
districts. Plans are afoot to set up party offices in Badulla,
Batticaloa, Trincomalee and Vavuniya soon. By next month, a party office
will be set up in Vavuniya.
“Five party offices will be set up before the end of this year”, he
said.
