Kavindu overlooked for U-19 World Cup

Kavindu Ashan Perera Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer |
The Sunday Observer/Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the
Year 2012 (Oustation) Kavindu Ashan Perera of Royal College, Panadura
should consider himself trifle unlucky for not being included in the Sri
Lanka Under 19 World Cup team now in Australia. Kavindu playing in his
fifth and final year for his school has proved his all-round
capabilities beyond doubt with a rich haul of wickets and scoring 1,133
runs with three centuries and five fifties. He has been at Panadura
Royal from the beginning of his school career and has represented his
school in all tournaments in his age group.
He was judged the best player in the under-13 tournament conducted by
the SLCA and was an automatic choice to represent the other age groups
of under-15, under-17 and under-19.
Kavindu Ashan, a right-hand middle order batsman is reputed for his
resolute batting and steadying the innings should the batting collapse.
His centuries against Maliyadeva, Kurunegala,
Tissa MV, Kalutara and Sri Jayawardenepura MV, Kotte are shining
examples. Kavindu Ashan’s short stint with Leo SC, Negombo in the
under-23 team has made him more determined and as every cricketer’s
dream, he is hoping to represent the country at the highest level one
day.
He is grateful to his coach Sumith Prasanna who has guided him all
the way during his cricket career at school.
