Lioness eats antelope... then adopts its orphaned baby

It was an unbelievable storyline for photographer Adri de Visser: how a lioness showed her softer side when the trembling antelope calf appeared from the grass nearby.

Touching: The pair nuzzle up

The lioness had just taken the calf's mother for her lunch a while ago. But her hungry attitude changed when the orphaned calf appeared before her. Normally it'd be high on the lunch menu but Adri's amazing photos show the lioness adopting the orphaned antelope. The shots taken on the plains of Uganda show maternal instinct overtaking the impulse to kill as the lioness plays with the little calf before picking it up by the scruff of its neck and carrying it away like one of her own.

The Kob antelope's mother had failed to outrun the hungry predator and ended up as lunch. But the lioness showed her softer side when the trembling calf appeared from the long grass nearby.

Visser, saw how nature turned to nurture in the Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Adri said: "I was told there were two lionesses close by feeding on a kill so I went to go take some wildlife pictures."

When I got there, I saw the lionesses feeding on a Uganda kob's carcass.

After the satisfying "Lunch" the lioness was trying to relax at that moment the calf came out of its hiding place and was just in front of its mother's killer.

"The fawn just stood there before running into the lioness. It went between its legs like it was trying to get its milk."The lioness was really confused and they stood there for around 45 minutes.

"Then a park ranger turned up on his motorbike which made a really loud noise, which I think frightened the animals.

"So the lioness picked the fawn up by the neck and carried it off like one of its own."Fellow tourists later reported seeing the fawn running around unharmed with the lioness.

Creepy crawly with 12 inch-long legs discovered

Creepy, the giant daddy long-legs

The leggy arachnid is said to be a type of harvestman spider, related to the domestic daddy long-legs found in millions of British homes.

A weird looking insect with over 12-inch long legs (tentacles) was found by a team of scientists led by Dr. Peter Jager from Frankfurt's Biodiversity Centre in Germany.

While filming a TV documentary in Laos the scientists had discovered this unique creepy crawly.

The leggy arachnid - which measure 33 centimetres - is said to be a type of harvestman spider, related to the domestic daddy long-legs found in millions of British homes. "This is one of the biggest ever recorded and just about on the limit of how long these legs can grow before the spider loses control of them," said Dr. Jager.

Cruel mum who superglued her daughter's hands to wall

Got 99 problems: Elizabeth Escalona

She also kicked little Jocelyn in the stomach and hit her with a jug because of potty training problems.

A cruel mum who superglued her two-year-old daughter's hands to a wall has been jailed for 99 years.

Elizabeth Escalona also kicked little Jocelyn Cedillo in the stomach and hit her with a jug because of potty training problems.

Jocelyn suffered bleeding in her brain, a fractured rib, multiple bruises and bite marks and was in a coma for a couple of days. The 23-year-old mum-of-five from Dalls, Texas, pleaded guilty in July to inflicting injury to the child and was sentenced by the judge.

Even the prosecution had only been calling for a sentence of 45 years behind bars.

When asked in court what should happen to her, Escalona admitted "she should be put away... but also given a second chance because she is not a monster."
