Lanka Bell goes for IBM SmartCloud

Lanka Bell has adopted IBM SmartCloud to make its infrastructure more efficient, manage costs and increase speed-to-market, a spokesman for the company said.

Managing Director, Lanka Bell, Prasad Samarasinghe exchanges the partnership agreement with Country Manager, Integrated and Global Technology Services, IBM Sri Lanka, Sudesh Bajaj (on right). Head of IT, Lanka Bell, Trushan Handy looks on.

The private cloud environment will not only help Lanka Bell improve customer experience but also the company to offer cloud based infrastructure and storage services to its clients.

With rapid subscriber and telecom services growth, telecom carriers are increasingly shifting their focus from the traditional technology and networks towards enhancing customer services and business performance.

Lanka Bell uses the cloud solution to support its internal IT requirements and offer cloud-based services to customers.

The solution enables Lanka Bell to focus increasingly on their core business and enhance use of resources. IBM will also help Lanka Bell upgrade its data centre and disaster recovery environment to make it energy efficient and ensure uninterrupted service to clients.

"This collaboration not only drives scalability but ensures that our customers enjoy a higher level of reliability and comfort knowing that their data is secure in a private cloud environment," said Managing Director, Lanka Bell, Prasad Samarasinghe.

"With IBM, the cloud computing infrastructure can be provisioned in a matter of minutes as compared to weeks or months on a traditional infrastructure set up.

This has not only helped us deploy new features faster but also scale up the infrastructure rapidly, enabling faster time to market. Moreover, we now focus on growing the business without having to worry about associated IT capital investments," he said.

"As more and more businesses aim to position themselves ahead of the competition through transformative IT solutions, we see an increasing demand for cloud computing," said Country General Manager, IBM Sri Lanka, Chrishan M Fernando.

"We have helped Lanka Bell set up a robust infrastructure to achieve operational efficiencies thus enhancing customer experience," he said.
