NSB assets surpassed Rs 500 billion in 2012

The assets of the National Savings Bank (NSB) exceeded Rs. 500 billion last year, NSB, GM and CEO Hennayake Bandara said. He was speaking at a ceremony to mark an official visit by Deputy Finance and Planning Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama to the bank last week. He said that the bank had passed many milestones during its 41-year existence and added that the bank is among the top three banks in the country.

Call to shift foreign employment to Far East

Trade deficit continues to narrow

The trade deficit continued to narrow and recorded a 24 percent year-on-year (Y-O-Y) decline in January 2013. The policy measures implemented early in 2012 to discourage non-essential imports have continued to ease pressure on the trade deficit and therefore on the current account balance.

Rs. 225 m mini hydro plant in Bulathkohupitiya

Power Resources (Pvt) Ltd signed an agreement with the BOI to set up a mini hydro power plant in Bulathkohupitiya with an investment of Rs 225 million. Minister of Investment Promotion Yapa Abeywardena presented the BOI Certificate of Registration to investors Gamini Abeyweera and Warna Dahanayake.
