Ties with Muslim countries strengthened

In times of need, Muslims countries have always helped Sri Lanka and this was once again demonstrated when they voted against the US sponsored resolution on Sri Lanka at the United Nations Human Rights Council, Colombo District SLFP Organiser M. Fawzan Anwer said.

He said that Muslim countries has always helped Sri Lanka's development efforts and also was one of Sri Lanka major export destinations. He said that food exports to Middle East alone exceed US $ 1 billion per annum.

He said that however some elements with vested interests were trying to destabilize this long standing friendly relations. He said it was important for all to support government irrespective of differences to stall such endeavours. He welcomed the amicable settlement to the Halal certification issue which spurred tensions in recent times.

He commended the role played by all stakeholders including the All Ceylon Jamiyathul Ulama (ACJU) in settling the issue.

Anwer said that disputes may arise from time to time but the important thing was to settle them amicably through discussion and not violence.
