Unusual scene in Parliament
There was an unusual scene in Parliament last week.
Hardly anybody has seen former UNP deputy leader Sajith Premadasa walk
up to his leader Ranil Wickremesinghe for a serious discussion. The
unusual scene was witnessed last week as Sajith walked up to the Leader
of the Opposition. HE told Ranil that he planned to raise questions
about the prices of paddy, in Parliament and got the green light from
his party leader.

Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said
democracy has today become a laughing stock thanks to the present
Opposition. The Minister in an interview with the Sunday Observer said
that the UNP’s no-confidence motion against Foreign Employment Promotion
and Welfare Minister Dilan Perera over a petty issue is a serious blow
to morality,

Gampaha district who enjoyed the rare honour of being first appointed as
a member of Parliament under the new Constitution by President J.R.
Jayewardene in 1978, continuously, represented the Wattala electorate
holding a number of ministerial portfolios under four of the previous
party leaders.
