flydubai to operate MRIA flights
flydubai, Dubaiís innovative airline, will
operate flights to the new Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport
(MRIA) from May 21. It will operate flights thrice a week on
Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. The airline has also decided to
operate a daily frequency from MRIA from June making it the first
airline to launch daily flights at the new airport.
CB cuts policy rates
The Central Bank (CB) cut the Repurchase rate
and the Reverse Repurchase rate by 50 basis points to 7.0 and 9.0
percent and the monthly monetory policy review said that the policy
decision aims at boosting credit and private investments. In
Tea production up this year
Sri Lanka's tea production this year has
increased compared to last year, according to reports. Plantation
company sources said that favourable weather conditions boosted tea
production this year. Watawala Plantation PLC, General Manager
J.W.Y.K. de Silva said that good weather helped to notch up tea
production this year and added that the upward trend could continue
during the next couple of months.
Automation, the key to effective trading
Minimising human intervention is vital to create
an effective trading environment at the Customs, said Director
General of Customs, Jagath P. Wijeweera at the launch of an
electronic export clearance system based on ASYCUDA World (AW)
software for the Customs.He said that automation of the Customs
clearance system is an important trade facilitation initiative.
GM, Railways inspects new track
Sri Lanka Railways, General Manager B. Aiyaratne
made an inspection tour of the newly completed rail track between
Medawachchiya and the Madhu road recently. He was accompanied by the
Project Director, Sri Lanka Railways, M P L N Peiris and General
Manager, Ircon International Limited, India, S L Gupta.
