The Government introduced strict laws in 2011 for vegetable and fruits to be transported in plastic crates to prevent waste. According to government sources over 40 percent of fruits and vegetable go waste during transportation and the country was losing over Rs 15 to 20 billion annually. flydubai to operate MRIA flights

flydubai, Dubai’s innovative airline, will operate flights to the new Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) from May 21. It will operate flights thrice a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. The airline has also decided to operate a daily frequency from MRIA from June making it the first airline to launch daily flights at the new airport.

Tea production up this year

Sri Lanka's tea production this year has increased compared to last year, according to reports. Plantation company sources said that favourable weather conditions boosted tea production this year. Watawala Plantation PLC, General Manager J.W.Y.K. de Silva said that good weather helped to notch up tea production this year and added that the upward trend could continue during the next couple of months.
