
Bernadeen Silva Memorial Flash Film Competition – 2013
Entries are invited for the Bernadeen Silva Memorial Flash Film
Competition 2013. The competition is in memory of the late Ms. Bernadeen
Silva for her extensive contribution to civil society and her commitment
to peace, social justice and civil rights.
The deadline is July 31 and the maximum running time is five minutes.
Entries will be judged by an expert panel.
1st prize – Rs. 50,000
2nd prize – Rs. 30,000
The film should be subtitled in English.
A participant may submit only one film.
A film synopsis and a resume of the director should be submitted
along with the film.
Send your CDs or DVDs (as a video data format e.g: AVI, MPEG, MOV,
FLV files to the Executive Director, Women’s Education and Research
Centre (WERC), 58, Dharmarama Road, Colombo 6 during office hours
(9.00am to 5.00pm) on or before July 31, 2013.

Nari Bena and Jasaya Saha Lenchina
Dayananda Gunawardane's two popular plays Nari Bena and Jasaya Saha
Lenchina will be staged at the Namel Malini Punchi Theatre on June 29 at
3.30 p.m. and 6.45 p.m.
Christian artistes’ creations
The Communication and Cultural Centre of the Archbishop’s House has
launched its website together with an online radio, facebook and YouTube.
Since it should maintain a collection of all the creations by Christian
artistes belonging to all times, they are invited to submit their
creations in Sinhala, Tamil and English to the website. All creations
should be sent on CD and DVD to the Communication and Cultural Centre of
the Archbishop’s House , No 48 Kynsey Road, Colombo 8.
Ecstasy and Truth
The Werner Herzog Documentary Film Week titled Ecstasy and Truth will
be held at the Goethe Institute, Colombo from June 24 to 30.
Herzog has travelled the world documenting people's lives capturing
the silence as well as the deep cries.
He has climbed snow-mountains in Asia and filmed while volcanoes
erupted in Europe. This is the first time in Sri Lanka that a large body
of work by a documentary film maker is presented at a festival.
The festival will be opened with Herzog’s first short film Herakels
(1962) and showcase the best documentary work of Werner Herzog during
four decades. Eighteen documentaries will be screened and screenings are
scheduled at 6 pm - 7 pm during weekdays and 10.30 am during weekends.
Sri Lankan film enthusiasts experience ecstasy and truth through the
eyes of Werner Herzog. The film week is curated by Anomaa Rajakaruna.
Creations for SIGNIS cinema festival
The period for accepting entries for the 37th SIGNIS Cinema festival
has been extended by a month following requests by the artistes.
Accordingly, short films on any subject should be confined to 15-10
minutes and film criticisms on the theme ‘ Sinhala cinema beyond 66’ for
the Jayawilala Wilegoda Memorial Award should be confined to 2,500
words.
Short films should be sent on DVD and film criticisms should be sent
on or before June 30 to SIGNIS Sri Lanka, No 19, Balcombe Place, Colombo
