LLRC recommendations - PSC should initiate talks

The 19-member Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) should initiate deliberations on the implementation of the LLRC recommendations and the government's national languages policy to ensure national unity, Minister of National Languages and Social Integration Vasudeva Nanayakkara told the Sunday Observer.

Minister Nanayakkara who represents the UPFA constituent Nava Samasamaja Party (NSSP) in the Committee said that laws to implement the languages policy have to be strengthened as part of the measures to unite the country as one nation.

The Minister who had expressed contentious views over moves to repeal certain sections of the 13th Amendment said that he is not opposed to repealing the clauses of the Amendment that provide for the amalgamation of one Provincial Council with another.
