State banks to provide Rs. 4,250 m for Janasevana program
State banks have agreed to provide Rs. 4,250 million to the
Janasevana Housing Program for the next six months.
Sate banks heads and representatives made this observation at a
meeting with Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common
Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa at his office. Minister Weerawansa
said under the guidance of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Janasevana
program is being carried out successfully and the contribution towards
the program by State banks is admirable.
"A large number of homeless families have built their own houses
under Janasewana Upahara low interest loan scheme with the support
provided by State banks during the past two years, loan coordination and
technical guidance for these families were provided free of charge by
the National Housing Development Authority", the Minister said. He also
said Sate banks will provide Rs. 4,250 million at low interest rates to
help homeless families build houses under the Janasewana Upahara
program.
"Accordingly, the Bank of Ceylon will provide Rs. 1,200 million,
People's Bank will provide Rs. 1,2000 million and the National Savings
Bank will provide Rs. 1,200 million for this purpose. The Housing
Development Financial corporation Bank will provide Rs. 500 million and
the State Mortgage and Investment Bank will provide Rs. 150 for this
program", he said. Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and
