A person who tried to smuggle in mobile phones and tablet PCs worth over Rs.1 million in someone else's baggages was seized by the Customs at the Bandaranaike International Airport last morning.

Customs spokesman Leslie Gamini told Sunday Observer that the suspect had arrived from Dubai and was searched on suspicion whilst trying to go through the green channel.

The Customs found 785 mobile phones and 34 tablet PCs well hidden in two bags in his possession. However when checked the suspect's name and the name tags on his baggage had not matched.

It was later revealed that the bags were brought in by another person who had come in the same flight and had asked him to take them out of the airport. The items were valued at Rs. 1,060,000 were forfeited and a penalty of Rs.45,000 was imposed on the suspect.

Deputy Director of Customs A.K.N. Wickremasingha and his team are conducting inquiries.
