Royal wins Under-19 All Island Public Schools Tennis Tournament

Royal College won the Under-19 All Island Public Schools Tennis Tournament concluded recently at the SLTA, Hard Courts in Grand Style without dropping a single match to any School in the Seven Ties they played this year. The team included three former Junior Davis Cup players namely world Junior ranked and Former Captain, Sharmal Dissanayake, Vice Captain, Dhanushka Abeyawardena and Eroo Samarasinghe.

In a flawless performance Royal College defeated ST. Peters College in the Finals by three Matches to nil in the five match contest in convincing fashion with Vice Captain and Junior Davis Cup player, Dhanushka Abeyawardena playing the 1st Single defeated Harsha Peiris 6-1, 6-1, Eroo Samarasinghe was given a walk over in the 2nd Single by Yoosuf Faizal. Captain Udishtran Raviraj and Dasun Fonseka defeated Aaron Asauw and Sasanka Gomes 6-3, 6-1 in the 1st Double.

The other two matches - the third Single between World Ranked National Junior Tennis Champion in the Under 16 and the Under 18, Sharmal Dissanayake from Royal and Nishangan Nadarajah of St. Peters and the second Double between Umesh Sooriyabandara and Senith Abeynayake of Royal and Chehan Fernando and Sanjiv Mohankumar of St. Peters was not played due to Royal clinching the tie three Matches to nil.

Results of ties played by Royal College are as follows

Group Stage: Beat St. Thomas 5-0, beat St. Benedicts 5-0, beat St. Michaels 5-0, beat Trinity 5-0, beat St. Peters 5-0.

Semi-Final: Beat D.S. Senanayake 3-0

Final: Beat St. Peters 3-0
