Science in 15-8 win

Science College, Mount Lavinia recorded a smashing 15 points (one
goal, one try, one penalty) to 8 (one try, one penalty) win over St
Joseph's College, Colombo in their Singer League Under-20 rugby
encounter played at Royal Sports Complex, Colombo 7 yesterday after
trailing 0-5 at the breather. It was Josephians, who opened scoring
through captain Jason Melder as usual scored a try from the left corner
flag which was unconverted in the 33rd minute. Joes led 5-0 at lemons.
The second half belonged to Science College, who dominated play
through their hard working forwards. Science opened their account after
five minutes from the resumption with a 20-metre penalty by Chathura
Gomes to reduce the deficit and Science made it 3-5.
Two minutes later, the Mount Lavinia school snatched the lead when
Number Eight, Thilina Thilanka scored a splendid try. But Chatura Gomes
missed the golden opportunity to increase the lead as he missed the
conversion and Science led 8-5.
Twelve minutes later, the Darley Road school equalled the points
tally with a 20-metre penalty kick by Dulith Fernando to make 8-8. In
the 31st minute, Science came back storming when scrum half, Prasad
Silva punted ahead and collected on the follow through. He crashed
through to touch down near the posts to give Chathura Gomes an easy kick
at goal to give Science College a 15-8 victory. |
