NCP: Date of registration of displaced persons extended

The date of receiving electoral enumeration forms from Grama Niladharis of the Northern Province under special arrangements to register displaced people has been extended up to July 2 as the Elections Department in Rajagiriya continues to receive forms, although the last date was June 29, senior officials of the department said.

Up to yesterday afternoon enumeration forms of only 1,300 displaced persons were received although the number of displaced persons to be registered as voters in their places of residence is believed to be more, officials said. The date for appeals on registrations is July 9, the sources said.

It was decided in the run up to the NPC polls that all displaced persons should be registered for voting in their respective places of residence. The date of the polls has not been fixed yet, but will be in the latter part of September. The date will be announced shortly, the sources said.
