Death of Amarahewa Madduma
Veteran writer, critic and well-known SLAS Officer Amarahewa Madduma
passed away on Friday morning while he was under medical care at a
private hospital in Colombo.
The cremation will take place at the Kohuwala public cemetary today
2.00 p.m. The remains are lying at No.10/2, Vijayaba Mawatha,
Kalubowila.
Zahira Pre-Ramadan fair
The annual pre-Ramadan fair organsied by the Group of '80 of Zahira
College, Colombo will be held for the fourth successive year on July 6
and 7 at the colelge premises.

Brain surgery
Seven-year-old M.K.A. Madushika of Dalupath Gedara, Mallawa Gedara
has been diagnosed with Low grade neoplasm with haemorrhage, and is need
of surgical removal at the earliest, to prevent further complications.
The surgery Functional Neurosurgery to relieve Epileptic episodes
under Neuronavigation Guidance, is available only at The Central
Hospital, and is estimated to cost around Rs. 1,200,000, inclusive of
hospital and equipment charges and professional fees. She may also need
extended ICU care.
Her parents appeal for help from the generous public and the
contributions could by remitted to A/c No 137-2-001-30049755 of the
People's Bank, Pannala.

Communist Party turns 70
The 70th Anniversary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka will be held
on July 3, at 2.30 p.m. at the Maharagama Youth Centre Auditorium.
An exhibition depicting the history of the Communist Party of Sri
Lanka will be opened on the same day.
The chief guest on the occasion will be Madhav Kumar, Nepal, Senior
Leader of the Communist Party of Nepal and former Prime Minister.
There will also be a public meeting at the Co-operative Hall, Jaffna
on july 6 at 2.30 p.m.
National Youth Charter soon
The Youth Affairs and Skills Development Ministry has formulated a
National Youth Charter. A committee comprising intellectuals, university
activists State and Non-Government representatives and Provincial Youth
Leaders has drafted at having entertained public views.
The date for entertaining further views has been extended till July
5, after which it would be presented in Parliament.
Foreign cricket club to take on NE team after 30 years
The Under-17 team of the Melbourne's Ferntree Gully District Cricket
Association will become the first international touring side to play in
the Northern Province after 30 years when they take on the Northern and
Eastern Provincial Combined team at a T-20 cricket match on July 1 at
the Kilinochchi Central College grounds. The match is organised by the
57 Army Division, with the Foundation of Goodness, under the supervision
of Commander of the Security Forces, Kilinochchi, Maj. General Udaya
Perera.
Anthonians Walk 2013
The Anthonians Walk 2013 of St. Anthony's Balika Maha Vidyalaya,
Kollupitiya will be held on July 6 in connection with its Golden Jubilee
