Indika improves on Sri Lanka Masters Record in Malaysia
Masters athlete G. Indika from Gampaha District bettered the Sri
Lanka Masters Record for 100 meters - Men (35 - 39 age group) by
clocking 11.4 seconds at the recently concluded 27th Malaysian (Open)
Masters Athletic Championships meet held at the Perak Stadium, Ipoh,
Malaysia. He went on to take 3 Gold medals with a fine performance of
sprinting in the 200 and the 400 metres. He also did the anchor lap to
win the Gold for Sri Lanka team in the 4 x 100 metres relay, putting up
another fine show on track.
Sri Lanka team came second in the medals table behind Sabah State
winning 22 Golds, 17 Silvers and 15 Bronze medals.
Sri Lanka particiapted with athletes from Singapore, Indonesia,
Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Nepal, South Korea, Iran, 18 Malaysian
States and Malaysian Police Academy.
General Secretary of Sri Lanka Masters Athletic Association Tissa
Samarasinghe accompanied the team as the Manager with H.A. Upali from
Bank of Ceylon as Asst. Manager, R.A. Mahinda Luxman (Colombo Dockyards
PLC) was Captain and B.K.S. Anuruddhika (Ceylon Petroleum Corporation)
