Foundation stone for Ho Chi Minh statue

The foundation laying ceremony for the Ho Chi Minh statue will be laid by Pham Binh Minh, Minister of Foreign Affairs on July 15 at 8.00 a.m. at the Colombo Public Library, Sir Marcus Fernando Mawatha, Colombo 7.

Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Ton Sinh Thanh will preside.

Prof. H.A. De S. Gunasekera memorial oration on July 12

The Prof. H.A. De S. Gunaskera Memorial Oration 2013 organised jointly by the Dept of Economics & Statistics, University of Peradeniya and the Prof. H.A. De S. Gunasekera Memorial Trust Fund will be held on Friday, July 12 at 4.00 pm at the Senate Room, University of Peradeniya. The oration will be delivered by Prof. Premachandra Athukorala, Professor of Economics, Australian National University on the topic, 'Sri Lanka's Post-Conflict Development Challenge: Learning from the Past".

The event is open to the public.

Golden Jubilee of University '63 Entrants

The Golden Jubilee of the 1963 Entrants to the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya will be held on Sunday, July 14 at the Mt. Lavinia Hotel from 9.30am.

Organised by the "Alumni of the University of Ceylon 1960-1969," the event will be chaired by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Prof. Athula Senaratne. Professors Savithri Goonesekere and W.D. Lakshman will address the gathering.

Seminar on 'Christian Leadership'

A Holy Mass presided over by Rev. Fr. Ranjith Madurawela followed by a seminar on 'Christian Leadership' will be hold on July 7 at 7.30 a.m. at the College Chapel, St. Joseph's College, Colombo 10, to unite the Catholic Prefects in the Archdiocese.

Heart surgery

K. Ravichandran (45) of 77, Aluthwatte Road, Chilaw, a father of two school-going daughters, is suffering from an acute heart condition and has been recommended immediate bypass surgery by the Consultant Cardiologist, Dr. Godwin R. Constaneine of the Asiri Surgical Hospital, Colombo.

A trishaw driver by profession, is unable to meet the medical expenses, and appeals to kind donors for assistance. Contributions could be credited to Commercial Bank, Chilaw branch A/c No.8430009294.
