SWIMMING: Trinity College swimming captain Shehan de Silva is
enjoying his best ever season breaking records after records at all
levels.
At the Central Province Swimming meet organised by the CEPASA he
broke five records and won five gold medals. At the National Short
Course Swimming Championship he broke the existing record for 50 metres
Butterfly stroke.At the Festival of Games he established a new record in
the 100 metres free style event timing 56.53 seconds erasing the earlier
record of 56.65 seconds held by Sri Lanka's swimming captain Heshan
Unamboowe representing Trinity College.
Then came the National Schools Swimming Championship where he
established three records to end as the champion swimmer last week.
In the 400 metres Individual Medley he timed 5.13.27 minutes to
eclipse the previous record of 5.15.85 minutes held by Pathum
Edirisinghe of Ananda College.In the 200 metres Individual Medley he
clocked 2.24.82 minutes to break the record of 2.29.56 minutes held by
Pradeep Wanigasekera of Trinity College.Thirdly in the 200 metres Free
Style event he registered a timing of 2.2.81 minutes to erase the
earlier record of 2.59.93 minutes held since 1999 by SAF Games swimmer
Sean Lee.
