Vasu refutes allegations

National Languages and Social Integration Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara refuted TNA allegations that the Security Forces had been involved in the polls campaign in the run-up to the September 21 polls and their presence in public places was overwhelming.

Minister Nanayakkara, the leader of the Democratic Left Front (DLF) told the Sunday Observer from Jaffna that these accusations are totally incorrect and misleading since he himself had not witnessed such things by the Security Forces and moreover he never saw such “undue” presence of the Forces in any areas he visited.

Nanayakkara held meetings and media conferences to ascertain the truth of these allegations that the presence of the Forces was overwhelming and not a single person had raised any such issues, the veteran leftist leader said.

The TNA demand that the Forces should be confined to barracks is not practical considering the security of the province the Minister, said.
