'Opposition fails to throw any challenge to Govt'
by Uditha Kumarasinghe
UPFA Wayamba Provincial Council candidate Johan Fernando said that
the Opposition had failed to throw any challenge whatsoever to the
Government at the Wayamba polls. What they seem to be doing is merely
slinging mud at President Mahinda Rajapaksa, his family and the UPFA
candidates contesting the election.
The UPFA campaign is progressing well in Wayamba. If we go to the
grassroots level, we don't see any voters who are backing the UNP or the
JVP. Almost all those whom we met in the province are strongly
supporting the President and the Government. Most of them are really
happy with the development in the Province, he told the Sunday Observer.
The Opposition lacks proper leadership at present. There is a lot of
infighting among UNP leaders. Therefore grassroots level politicians in
the UNP are at a loss on whom to follow, he said. There are Opposition
politicians at grassroots level who wish to help people. This is
precisely what the UPFA Government is doing at present. It is easy for
Opposition politicians to join the Government and help people.
This is why a large number of UNP provincial politicians are joining
the Government.Fernando said the Government would achieve a resounding
victory in Wayamba. The UPFA will win the election with the highest
majority in history. |
