Varsity students wanted as volunteers during CHOGM
The Information Ministry will recruit 300 volunteers from among
university students to help with the media arrangements of the
Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting from November 10-17.
The Media Ministry Secretary Charitha Herath said they were expecting
around 1,000 media personnel including 500 international correspondents
to register for the CHOGM coverage, the biggest international event Sri
Lanka will be hosting after the NAM summit in late 1970s.
The Ministry will make the announcement in the coming days asking for
interested university students to communicate with the Ministry to
register as a CHOGM media assistant.
In addition to the Commonwealth Heads' meeting the full CHOGM program
includes, a host of other connected activities that involve huge media
coverage, including a Business Forum, a People's Forum and a Youth Forum
which will be held at different locations.
There are several exhibitions, community programs attended by
delegates and leisure tours which will be open for media coverage. There
will be at least two media conferences jointly addressed by the
Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma and Sri Lankan President
Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as the host country President and the
new Chair of CHOGM.
The main media centre will be located at the BMICH while there will
be sub-stations at the Waters Edge, International Convention Centre at
Hambantota, the Airport to cover the arrival of delegates and few other
places.
