Exhibition to promote local products

A three-day exhibition of locally produced textile items, small industry items and handicrafts will be held in the vicinity of the Waters Edge Hotel from September 17 - 19 under the auspices of the Department of Industry of the Western Provincial Council. Quality products of local craftsmen will be displayed in 80 stalls for viewing and purchasing, according to a media release of the Department.

The exhibition will be inaugurated by Western Province Industries Minister Udaya Gammanpila on September 17 at 10:30 am. Ministers, VIPs and senior ministry officials will be present. The exhibition will be held from morning till 10 pm on all three days.

The exhibition will also provide an opportunity for entrepreneurs to buy raw materials for textiles, handloom and handicraft products.

Holding the exhibition is intended at promoting local handicrafts and textiles items, creating market opportunities for the products and giving incentive to the local craftsmen, according to the release.
