Election training for 40,000 Govt officials

Department of Elections is now training 40,000 (forty thousand) government officials to be deployed for election duties at North-Western, Central and Northern Provincial Council polls to be held on Sep.21, 2013. These government officials would be categorised as Asst.Returning Officers, SPOs, JPOs, clerks and office assistants.

These officials are trained in respective administrative districts of relevant provincial councils. In addition, 7,500 police officers are expected to be employed at polling stations of these provincial councils by the Police Department and these police officers would provide security at polling stations during the provincial elections are being held, said a senior official attached to the office of Asst.Commissioner of Elections in Kurunegala.
