Avatar : dubbing artiste Sanjana in the limelight

Fourteen-year-old Sanjana Sithumin Hewavitarana is involved in a rather unusual pastime albeit an interesting one.

He is interested in dubbing. Sanjana said the interest was created by his mother who had a relative who was also into dubbing.

Sanjana was intrigued how cartoons were dubbed and began researching the art of dubbing. He is an avid cartoon watcher and was curious to know how these cartoons were dubbed.

Sanjana has dubbed the main character -Aang in the Sinhala cartoon film Avatar. Sanjana's selection to dub the main character was a surprise because he had gone for an audition to Swarnavahini and he was picked up to dub this character. For Sanjana it was a dream come true and he enjoyed dubbing when Avatar was telecast on Swarnavahini in the morning.

He, however, did not forget his schoolwork. He is interested in his studies and hopes to continue his education. Sanjana attends Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa.

His parents have given him all the support to pursue his ambition. Sanjana hopes to become a professional dubbing artiste. In his leisure he plays scrabble to keep himself occupied. Avatar the well-known cartoon series has been aptly dubbed by Sanjaya in Sinhala.Children enjoyed the series because they could understand what was going on. Sanjaya enjoyed his dubbing stint"It gave me a lot of satisfaction that I had mastered the art of dubbing and was able to confidently carry out my task", Sanjaya said
