President to address UN on inaugural day

Mahinda Rajapaksa will lead Sri Lanka’s delegation to the 68th United
Nations General Assembly which will be convened at the UN Headquarters,
New York on Tuesday. He is one among the world leaders who will address
the General Assembly on the very first day, a senior official at the Sri
Lanka’s Mission in New York said, adding that his speech has been
included in the afternoon session.
The Assembly sessions were officially inaugurated on September 17 and
the ongoing opening discussions will continue till Tuesday where world
leaders will convene for the annual general debate to present their
views on pressing world issues.
The Sri Lankan delegation was due to leave last night on a chartered
flight. The president is accompanied by the External Affairs Minister
Prof. G.L. Peiris and several other ministers.
