Miracles through education - Minister Dullas Alahapperuma

There will be Miracles through changes in education. A dedicated service in this regard is essential. One cannot witness miracles without making an effort, said Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma.

He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for a University College at the Food Department premises in Madawatte, Matara.

The University College will conduct basic educational requirements for a technical degree conducted by the University of Vocational Technology in Ratmalana. Twenty five University Colleges will be established nationwide and the opening ceremonies will take place in 2014. The construction work is being carried out by the State Engineering Corporation.

"Innovative and forward thinking policy makers are needed for the development of the country," said the minister.

He added that every developed country achieved success through technical education.

Most citizens want to get into the traditional university system, but with the introduction of the new technical stream for the Advanced level curriculum, many issues of the youths will be solved, he said.

"The benefits of this new concept will not be witnessed today but will be realised when these students graduate in 2020," he said.

He said the path to a miracle should be through education and in today's world, the best resource is the human resource achieved through education.

Monitoring MP to the Youth Affairs and Skills Development Ministry Mohan Lal Grero, Southern Province Education Minister Chandima Rasaputhra and Vice Chancellor of the University Vocational Technology T.A. Piyasiri also addressed the gathering.

Matara District parliamentarian Sanath Jayasuriya, Southern Provincial Counsellors Kanchana Wijesekara and Aruna Gunesekara were also present.
