Students briefed on natural disasters

The Ministry of Education has instructed all school heads to educate school community on safety measures on possible fatal disasters caused to students from thunder-bolts and lightining.

During the year 2013, 15 persons have died of lightining which is a natural disaster. These figures have been confirmed by the Met. Department too school heads have been instructed by the Ministry of Education to educate students and their parents on ways and means of escaping possible threats of thunder-bolts. A senior Zonal Director of Education in Kurunegala told "Sunday Observer" that 1200 awareness programs to prevent deaths caused by thunder bolts and lightening have been organised at school level in both Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts of the NWP during September and October this year.
