SLCOV sessions from Sept 27-28
The Sri Lanka College of Venereologists (SLCOV) will conduct its
annual scientific sessions on September 27 and 28 at Hotel Kingsbury,
Colombo 1, presided over by SLCOV President, Dr. Jayadarie Ranathunga.
The theme of the sessions will be "Towards three zeros" which means
achieving zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination and zero AIDS
related deaths. The Inauguration will be held on Sept 26 and Dr. Sujatha
Mananwatta, Consultant Microbiologist, will be the chief guest and Dr
David Rowen, Consultant in Genito-urinary Medicine, Royal South Hants
Hospital, Southampton, United Kingdom, will be the guest of honour.
The academic sessions will commence on the first day. SLCOV has been
the main academic body which is responsible for updating the knowledge
on sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS of the medical
professionals in the country and has been conducting scientific sessions
annually since its inception in 1996.
Public support sought on skeletal remains
Following submissions to the Matale Magistrate's Court on November 26
2012 through the Police Station, Matale with regard to the discovery of
human skeletal remains during the excavations carried out at the
premises of the General Hospital, Matale, an investigation is being
conducted by the Magistrates Court, Matale by the Criminal Investigation
Department, in terms of the court order. If there is any person with any
information regarding these skeletal remains, they may either lodge a
complaint in person by visiting the Special Investigations Division 01,
1st Floor, Criminal Investigation Department of provide information or
writing.
Old Thurstan scribes to donate creations
Over 30 writers who were past students of Thurstan College, Colombo
will donate their creations to their alma mater at a ceremony on
Thursday, September 26, under the patronage of Principal Col. A.D.M.D.
Bandara.
The event is held to mark the literary month, organised by the OBA,
Sinhala Literary Association and the Media Circle.
School foundation-laying ceremony today
The laying of the foundation stone for the China Fort Junior School
at Pannila Road, China Fort, Beruwala will be held today at 9.00 am.,
presided over by Al-Haj Nowfel S. Jabir, Chairman, China Fort Mosque
Society. Chief Guests Dr. Rajitha Senarathna, Minister of Fisheries and
Aquatic Resources Development will be the chief guest.
AGM, get-together
The eleventh Annual General Meeting and get-together of the
Irrigation Department Ex-Officers Association will be held on September
29 at 10.00 am. at the Randiya Hotel, Koralawella, Moratuwa.
Kidney transplant
Thirteen-year-old Ms. S.A.T. Wasana Subasinghe, a mentally subnormal
patient is at end stage kidney failure. Consultant Nephrologist of the
National Hospital of Sri Lanka, Dr. A.L.M. Nazar has recommended
transplantation for her survival. The Kidney Transplant, anti rejection
therapy and post transplant medication are provided free at NHSL.
However, a few investigation and post discharge care may require private
funding, for which she appeals for financial assistance.

Kidney transplant
Twenty-six-year old Gayani Thisera of 333/1, Gangarama Road, Werahera,
Boralesgamuwa is at end stage renal failure. Consultant Nephrologist of
the National Institute of Nephrology, Colombo, Dr. Anura Hewageegana has
recommended immediate kidney transplantation.

Planters' Society AGM on Sept 28
The Ceylon Planters' Society will hold its Annual General Meeting on
September 28 at 10.00 a.m. at the 'Grand Monarch', Borella Road,
