'www.batsman.com', a website no young cricketer should miss
A concept is an idea automatically conceives in the mind of an
individual. If a concept is to be useful to the others, that concept
needs to be very selective. The concept of www.batsman.com, the latest
media based sports website hosted recently by Adelanka (Pvt) Ltd., 8th
floor, IBM building, Nawam Mawatha, Colombo 2 is so selective that it
has now become the most welcomed cricket website in Sri Lanka especially
because of the fact that its main concern is school cricket and also due
to its true approach without seeking anything in return.
Nothing will start shining as long as it is covered, similarly the
exposure and the publicity of what the young players do on the cricket
field are the key requirements that can enhance the competitiveness
among the players to play better cricket. Players too have problems that
affect their true potential and failure to address them properly and
timely will lead to the end of their cricketing career at the same place
it originated.
The vision of www.batsman.com is to ensure that the upcoming young
cricketers are provided with necessary helping hands and backings to
overcome the problems that come their way to slow down their march to
the future.
School cricket to get prominence
Despite the fact that the high standard of school cricket in Sri
Lanka is a globally accepted factor, the players involved have received
hardly any recognition. This discrimination has prompted 'batsman' to
focus their initial attention on school cricket. Cricketers emerging
from the nurseries are the backbone of a side that represents their
motherland sometimes later, but according to the current set-up, a
player is given his due recognition only once he entered the
international scene.Young players like to see their faces and display
their performance data on a screen that is seen by the world; and
appreciations of their talent by way of rewards. 'Batsman' came into
emergence with a clear vision of all what young cricketers need having
worked out a perfect plan to meet all these requirements to ensure a
better future for school cricket in Sri Lanka.
'Batsman's vision is very clear and when the vision is clear enough
one cannot go wrong in his or her approaches. Batsman's main concern is
to carry Sri Lankan school cricket to the door-step of worldwide viewers
and every initiative that is required in this respect has already been
taken by this particular website.
The service of 'batsman.com' during the recently concluded school U19
tournaments; two day, 50 over and T20, has been highly regarded and
appreciated particularly by the players, masters in charge and coaches
of schools involved in that tournament in addition to the cricket fans
in general.
Association recognises website
The Sri Lanka School Cricket Association also has duly recognized
'batsman' as a true supporter for their activities and also what has
this website carried out with their full blessings during the brief
period they have been in existence for which SLSCA would no doubt vouch.
The followings are the opportunities that are currently provided by 'www.batsman.com'
in brief as far as the school cricket is concerned.
Web pages are available for each and every school in tiers 1 & 11 of
under 19 age category - 2012/13 school cricket season covering all
versions of the tourney with player statistics, photographs, action
photos, player profiles, full score sheets of matches played, points
tables, match schedules/fixtures, a ranking system introduced by
'batsman' for players to make a self assessment of their individual
performances etc. Live up-dation of the proceedings of local school
matches especially during the final stages of tournaments and
international tournaments involving Sri Lankan school cricketers.
Apart from the publicity and provision of data, 'batsman' has
introduced numerous systems for the up-liftment of school cricket in Sri
Lanka and encouragement of players and schools.
A reward system for players
A reward system involving new bats and gift vouchers for highest
individual performances with bat and ball; there has been about 15
beneficiaries during the last school season under this system. The
requirement of clothing material for the players who took part in U15
Malaysian tour was provided by 'batsman' (two sets for each player).
The U19 limited over final between St. Benedict College, Kotahena and
St. Peter's College, Bambalapitiya was fully sponsored by 'batsman' with
necessary clothing's, certificates, trophies and refreshments.
Certificates presentable to players took part in the inter school
tournaments during the season 2012/13 were printed and handed over to
schools and the presentations will be made in due course.
Charity measures
During the last school cricket season it was observed that certain
schools have more than what they required as far as cricketing gear was
concerned and a majority was short of such items. Cricket, like most of
the other games do need a lot of practice, dedication and concentration,
but lack of equipment and protective gears are limiting the practice
sessions of needy schools resulting in poor performances at matches.
'Batsman' noticed this set-back as a vital area to be addressed
immediately and made arrangements to negotiate with those who have
excessive resources and who can afford to help the 'have nots'in order
to sort-out this problem. The system appearing in www.batsman.com as
'batsman - connect' is what a viewer should log on to if he or she
wishes to be a partner of this worthy cause.
