Dear
children,
How many of you have played the word game-scrabble? Did you ever give
a thought as to who found this interesting word game. Our pages have
some information of the founder of the game and how it really began.
Scrabble is a rather interesting game of words. It also helps you in
your spellings because you have to get your words correct. Your
vocabulary too improves when you play this game.
Alfred Mosher Butts of the USA was the person who originated the
game. Butts studied the front page of The New York Times to calculate
how often each of the 26 letters of the English language was used. He
found that vowels appear far more often than consonants, with the letter
E being the most frequently used vowel. After figuring out the frequency
of use, Butts assigned different point values to each letter and decided
how many of each letter would be included in the game. This was how
Scrabble originated. If you have not played scrabble before, ask your
parents to get you a scrabble board and start playing it.
Bye for now, Aunty Merle.
