Failure to score high marks incurs father’s wrath

A 10-year-old boy who failed to score high marks at the grade five scholarship examination sustained serious injuries after being allegedly burnt by his father with a heated iron bar in Bogawanthalawa.

The boy who was living in a lineroom in a tea estate was burnt in the face and the thigh on Thursday night, the police spokesman said.

OIC Bogawanthalawa police Sarath Samarawickrama said the boy had failed the examination after scoring only 92 marks out of 200. The father had told the police that he had spent much on his son’s education despite hardships and was furious that he had failed the examination. The boy is currently being treated at the Bogawanthalawa hospital. The father was remanded after being produced in court.
