Nepal bans screening of documentaries on Lanka

Nepal has banned the screening of three Sri Lankan films including the controversial British Channel 4 documentary No Fire Zone at the Film South Asia (FSA) festival, following a request by the Sri Lankan Government.

The biennial film festival, held in Kathmandu since 1997, focuses on popularising documentaries. It was scheduled from October 3 - 6.

The FSA had scheduled to screen three documentaries on Sri Lanka. Broken and The Story of One directed by Kannan Arunasalam and No Fire Zone: The Killing Fields of Sri Lanka, the controversial Channel 4 documentary directed by Callum Macrae. The organises have reportedly received instructions from Nepal's Ministry of Information to stop the screening after the Sri Lankan Government reportedly objected to the screening, according to the Xinhua news agency.
