New plant to generate 100 jobs
by Naalir Jamaldeen
Sri Lanka is becoming a regional hub in aviation, shipping,
telecommunication, business, knowledge and tourism, as envisaged by
President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Investment Promotion Minister Lakshman Yapa
Abeywardane said. Those who invested in the country in the most
difficult years should be honoured, he said.
Minister Abeywardane who was speaking after opening Kramski Lanka
(Pvt) Ltd., a new factory in the Katunayaka Export Processing Zone said
the new plant will double production while generating 100 employment
opportunities.
The Chairman of the company Wiestaw Kramski started operations in Sri
Lanka two decades ago at a time when many investors refrained from
investing. Hence the decision to invest at that time should be
commended, Abeywardane said.
He said the Provincial Council elections proved that peace had been
restored in the country with new investments.
"Sri Lanka is a peaceful country with plenty of investment
opportunities. I am optimistic about the potential for high-tech
manufacturing since Lanka has its skilled engineers and many young
people who can be trained in these fields", the Minister said.
