UNP, a nonentity today, says Dayasiri

The newly elected Chief Minister of the Wayamba Provincial Council Dayasiri Jayasekara said the UNP would be reduced to an abyss after President Mahinda Rajapaksa wins the next Presidential Election with an overwhelming majority.

The outcome of the recently concluded Provincial Council election is clear testimony to the UNP on its future electoral defeats.

At present, the UNP has turned into a non entity in the political arena. The UNP has descended to a deplorable level under the incumbent leadership. The UNP has no strategy whatsoever to secure power in the future. The UNP would suffer another humiliating defeat at the next three Provincial Council elections next year, the Chief Minister told the Sunday Observer yesterday.Asked about the UNP's claim for an early election next year, the Chief Minister queried as to what is the UNP's strategy for an early election next year. At present, the Government has an overwhelming majority in Parliament with 161 members.

If the UNP wants to topple the Government at least 50 Government MPs should cross over to the Opposition. If the remaining UNP MPs like us also joined the Government, who will join the UNP which has descended to a pathetic situation. That would never become a reality, he said.
