Telemail service launched
by Naalir Jamaldeen
The Postal Department introduced a telemail service from last week,
following the termination of the telegram service by Sri Lanka Telecom,
Postal Services Minister Jeevan Kumarathunga said. Customers are assured
of a confident and reliable service similar to the telegram service, the
Minister said.
He said that messages can be sent promptly via this service. Twenty
rupees will be charged for the first 10 words and Rs. 1.50 for each
additional word. Certain technical problems may arise in the course of
time and hence customer opinions are welcome. Even though the telegram
service was operated by the Postal Department it came under the purview
of Telecom, the Minister said.
