Polish Cinema Classics at NFC cinema

The Polish Institute, New Delhi in partnership with Agenda 14 will present the Polish Cinema Classics at National Film Corporation cinema from October 25 to 27.

The Polish Cinema Classics Weekend has selected four world recognised Polish classics to be screened. They are Innocent Sorcerers by Andrzey Wajda, Good bye, See You Tomorrow by Janusz Morgenstern, Night Train by Jerzy Kawalerowicz and Eroica by Andrzej Munk.

Apart from the the Polish Cinema Classics Weekend a panel discussion has been organised by Agenda 14 and under the topic Polish Cinema Classics and Restoration with veteran filmmaker Dharmasena Pathiraja, Dharmasiri Bandaranayake and internationally acclaimed filmmaker Vimukthi Jayasundara. The session will be moderated by Anomaa Rajakaruna, the founder of Agenda 14.

Innocent Sorcerers

Innocent Sorcerers is a story of young people of the jazz age, rebellious and alienated from society. It was considered a unique film, full of new wave frivolity and charm. It was filmed at the same time as Jean-Luc Godard’s À bout de souffle/ Breathless. What Godard and Wajda’s films have in common is the relations between the main characters and their fear of love. What distinguished them is the way the stories are told and the way they finish.

Eroica

A remastered, high-definition version of the legendary Polish director’s most celebrated work, Eroica presents two tales of anti-heroic protagonists who could not escape from the influence of the dominating spirit of heroism during the World War II.

Night Train

Night Train (1959) is a blend of a psychological study and a thriller. It tells of a woman (Winnicka again) suffering an inner crisis. She buys a ticket from a stranger for a crowded holiday train, and finds

herself in a sleeper with an unhappy doctor. The police board the train in search of a killer.
