Woman's record-length fingernails broken in crash

November 2004, Lee Redmond's nails measured 31 1/2 inches.

Lee Redmond shows off her fingernails

You may not think this car crash as a world shattering news story as the victim had sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The victim was Lee Redmond of Salt Lake City, US, who is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for her long fingernails. Although she sustained serious injuries the most unnerving tragedy is that all her record breaking fingernails were broken in the car crash.

Redmond's nails, which hadn't been cut since 1979 measured a total of more than 28 feet long in 2008, with the longest nail on her right thumb at two feet, 11 inches.

Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Don Hutson says Redmond was ejected from an SUV in the crash and taken to the hospital in serious condition. Redmond has been featured on TV in episodes of “Guinness Book of World Records” and “Ripley's Believe It or Not.”

Proud father at the age of 94

Raghav and his wife Shakuntala plan to have another child.

Ramjit Raghav of Kharkhoda village near Sonepat, Haryana is a proud man. The reason is that the wait to hold his own child finally ended as he became the father to a son for the first time at the advanced age of 94.

Ramajit worked at his landlord’s farm for the past 22 years. He got married to Shakuntala, his second wife ten years ago who is believed to be in her 50s presently. Shakuntala was admitted to the Kharkoda town Government civil Hospital last month where she delivered a baby boy.

The proud parents named their baby Karamjit and his father insists that he is ‘God’s gift’ to him. He also adds that his age is only a number and he has a clear, clutter-free mind.

When asked whether he was worried about his child’s future, the new dad insisted he is in good health and that he would still be around in a decade. Dr. Mahendra Kumar the senior medical officer of the hospital confirmed the birth of the child and said that though it was a remote possibility to have a child at this age; it could not be completely ruled out.

With this birth, Ramajit has beaten the previous holder of the oldest dad crown in India, a 90-year-old Nanu Ram Jogi, who became a dad to his 22nd child in 2007.

Polygamist hubby mauled by wives

A husband beating the wife is a very common news story but a wife or for that matter wives beating a husband is an extremely rare occurrence. And to find that this happened in India too becomes a rare news as wives are frequently beaten in that country.

Recently, Mumbai police was surprised when a 17-year-old boy made a complaint against his mother for assaulting his father. When the police officers went to young Irfan’s house to inquire into his complaint they had to encounter a different kind of situation.

Irfan’s mother Saroja had been the second wife of his father Ayub Shaikh. She had been upset when she heard that Ayub was planning his fourth marriage. Angry Saroja accompanied by Ayub’s first wife, arrived at his house in Kurla, dragged him outside and started beating him.

Irfan who was living with his father witnessed the violent scene had to call for help from police officers patrolling the area. The intervening police officers took Saroja to the police station and let her off with a warning.

But Irfan was not satisfied and wanted his mother punished, hence the complaint.

Saroja said that Shaikh married her a few years ago but left her to marry a third time. She had then filed a harassment complaint against her husband, following which the Kurla police had arrested Shaikh under Section 498 of the Indian Penal Code. Shaikh, who got bail was about to get married a fourth time, when Saroja and his first wife got wind of the news and landed at his house to maul him.

“Shaikh marries innocent girls and then abandons them only to find a new target. I do not regret anything I did. He deserves the same treatment from every woman he has married and ruined,” said Saroja.
