Security to be strengthened at Arugam Bay

Although peace has returned to the country and it has become a holiday destination, there are several problems preventing tourists visiting a destination of their choice. Tourists are concerned about their safety and security, said President of Chamber of Tourism and Industry, Sri Lanka, A.M. Jaufer at a meeting organised by the Police Tourist Division at Arugam Bay to strengthen security for tourists.

"Developing tourist infrastructure facilities alone is not enough. Tourists should be well received and allowed to enjoy their holiday," he said.

Director, Police Tourist Division, SSP Cecil de Silva, Officer in Charge of Police Tourist Division, CI Nayanapriya Edirisinghe, IP Senanayake and SI Nishantha of Pottuvil Police were present. Jaufer said that the Tourist Police should be strengthened with officers with foreign language skills and awareness programs should be conducted to create a tourist friendly environment in the area.

Several issues related to the tourism sector in the area were also discussed.
