Adyapana 2014 in Jaffna
Adyapana 2014, a higher education and career exhibition, will be held
from January 17-19, 2014 at the Duraiyappah stadium, Jaffna.
The organisers will invite educational institutions, universities and
colleges to venture into the untapped Northern market under the caption
'Kalvi Jaffna' meaning 'education' or 'adyapana' in Tamil. The event
will be held parallel to the Jaffna International Trade Fair (JITF).
President of Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Yarlpanam, K.
Poornachandran said that the event is considered as a pivotal meeting
point by the community in Jaffna.
Adyapana Colombo concluded in October at the BMICH.
ComBank second in Business Today 'Top 25'
The Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC (ComBank) has been accorded second
place in the Business Today 'Top 25' ranking of Sri Lanka's top
performing public listed corporate entities in 2012-13.
The bank has moved up one place from last year's ranking.
Financial criteria considered for the ranking include share turnover,
revenue, profit after tax, growth in sales turnover, growth in profit,
return on equity, growth in Earnings per Share, market capitalisation,
value of shares transacted and value addition. Weights are assigned to
the criteria uniformly to arrive at the scores on which the rank is
decided.
Abans opens warehouse in Dambulla
Abans opened its new environment-friendly and automated regional
warehouse complex close to the 38th mile post on the Dambulla-Matale
Road, in Lenadora, Dambulla, recently.
In addition to their large eco-friendly warehouse facility in
Kadolkele, Seeduwa, Abans have now extended its logistical services
outside Colombo to cater to 150 to 200 of their showrooms in and around
the central region.
The new 12,000 sq. ft. warehouse is equipped with state-of-the-art
machinery to handle container cargo, stacking and storing of electric
and electronic home appliances.
The handling equipment has been chosen for its operational
versatility and minimal power use.
Laugfs IT bags Gold at NBQSA Awards
Laugfs Holdings, the diversified business conglomerate, was
recognised for excellence in software at the 15th National Best Quality
ICT Awards (NBQSA), the annual competition which recognises exceptional
local ICT innovations and achievements, at the Kingsbury recently.
Laugfs Corporate IT department won three awards at this ceremony
amidst competition from many Sri Lankan IT companies which competed
across 16 categories.
The team received a Gold award for its 'Pay and Go' payment gateway
solution under the Finance Applications Category, a merit award for the
Laugfs Gas Enterprise System under the E-Logistics and Supply Chain
Management category and another merit award for the ISO Document
Managing System under the In-House Applications category. The awards
were accepted by Laugfs Holdings Group, CIO, Kanishka Weeramunda and
Software Development Manager, Rajeeva George on behalf of the Laugfs
Corporate IT team.
Vice Admiral Colombage heads CSC
Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage has been appointed Ceylon Shipping
Corporation (CSC) Chairman from October 29. This is in addition to his
present duties as Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy.
He is an expert in maritime security with a distinguished naval
career spanning 34 years. He has published papers and conducted seminars
on maritime security and has been certified by the International
Maritime Organisation (IMO) as a lecturer in International Conventions
on Port and Ship Security (ICPS).
He is also a fellow of the Nautical Institute of the United Kingdom
and the Chairman of the Sri Lanka branch. |
