by Naalir Jamaldeen
A fully-equipped ward complex is being constructed at a cost of Rs.
385 million for the Moneragala District Hospital. Work in this regard is
in progress, Site Engineer Subramaniyam Thirunawukkarasu said.
The Health Ministry has taken steps to improve the facilities of
district hospitals to the standard of national hospitals on a concept by
President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The ward complex is expected to be opened
next year by President Rajapaksa, Government Information Department
sources said.
Thirunawukkarasu said the new ward complex will have special
features. The structure has been modified to receive more sunlight so
that there will be no need for electricity during the daytime. A large
amount of money spent on electricity can, therefore, be saved, he said.
He made these observations during a media tour organised by the
Government Information Department to the Moneragala district.
Thirunawukkarasu said the word complex consists of an ETU, ICU and
accident ward. A lift system is also available.
The ward complex consists of 2,200 beds and has an underground water
pump with the capacity of 100,000 litres. An internal water treatment
plant is also available here, the Site Engineer said.
A medical metal gas system has been set up for the ward complex at a
cost of Rs. 18 million. |
