‘Govt’s progressive policies won people’s harts’
by Uditha Kumarasinghe
Deputy Investment Promotion Minister Faiszer Musthapha said that
people voted for the Government because of its progressive policies and
not that the Opposition is weak. The vast majority of the people have
rallied round the Government as it has won the hearts of the minorities.
No change in leadership in the UNP would pose any challenge to the
Government. As a member of the SLFP and its Central Committee, I wish to
categorically state that the internal struggle within the UNP is not our
concern, the Minister told the Sunday Observer yesterday.
“Certain Ministers who are a part of our Government and represent the
Muslim community have made some contradictory statements about the
Government’s two-thirds majority in Parliament. I call upon them to be
sincere as they too are a part of the Government.”
We should maintain mutual trust and respect one another. The manner
in which some coalition partners of the Government act goes against the
fundamental principles of a coalition Government and dents the supremacy
of Parliament, the Deputy Minister said.
“The Government is very stable and has been given a resounding
mandate by the masses. If any constituent partner of the Government airs
contradictory views on this mandate, it reflects badly on the
legislature,” he said. |
