Union Assurance take Ratnavale Trophy
Union Assurance PLC riding on their skipper, Roshan Randima's
experience and Isuru Perera's robust performance, lifted the 7th Ram
Ratnavale Memorial Challenge Trophy, beating the well balanced, DFCC
Group "A" by 50 points to 45 in the Mercantile Services Basketball
Association Knock-out Tournament "A" division final, at the Otter
Aquatic Club Courts, under lights on Friday.
42 teams attracted the tournament, 34 men's teams playing in 5
divisions and 08 women's teams playing in 2 divisions.
The Women's "A" division Final between HNB and NTB, played prior to
the men's final was abandoned after the first quarter due to rain and
lightening. The Final will be replayed on Wednesday 6th November at the
same venue, commencing 5.00 pm.
DFCC led by Prageeth Pushpakumara got off to speedy start and took
the first quarter, 11/9.
Union Assurance took control of the game midway in the 2nd quarter
and led 23/20 at half time.
Shehan Udayanga spear headed the attack, as Union Assurance kept the
advantage to lead the 3rd quarter 35/29.
Union Assurance's stars, Isuru Perera (16 points) and Shehan Udayanga
(15 points) were picked as the Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament
and the Man of the Final respectively.
T. Thimothi (10), M. Fouzan (10) and Terrance Nedorf (08) scored for
DFCC

Men's "E" division (06 teams): Softlogic Vs. MAS Group "B"
match was abandoned in the 04th quarter due to heavy rain and
lightening. The Final will be played on 06th November, 6.00 pm.
Men's "D" division (07 teams) : Brandix beat HSBC /HDPL 54/48;
. Most Outstanding player - Yohan Dole from Brandix.
Men's "C" division (07 teams) : Commercial Credit beat MAS
Group "A", 52/49. Most Outstanding Player - Rajitha Madusanka from
Commercial Credit. |
