St.Sylvester’s and Walala A. Ratnayake Vidyalaya the Kandy District Athletics champs

St.Sylvester’s College with 73 points won the senior boys championships and Walala A. Ratnayake Vidyalaya won with 93 points won the Senior Girls Championships at the Kandy District Track and Field Championships organised by the Kandy District Athletic Association.

In the Junior Championships, Trinity College won the Junior Boys Championships with 121 points and Mahamaya College girls won the Junior Girls Championships with 120 points.

Senior Boys Team Championships: 1. St.Sylvester’s College 73 points, 2. Sri Sumangala Vidyalaya 42 points 3. Dharmaraja College and Vidyartha College with 22 points each.

Junior Boys Championships: 1. Trinity College 121 points, 2. St.Sylvester’s College 62 points, 3. Sri Sumangala Vidyalaya 42 points.

Senior Girls Team Championships: 1. A. Ratnayake Vidyalaya 93 points, 2. Mahamaya Girls College 54 points 3. Nugawela Vidyalaya 47 points.

Junior Girls Team Championships: 1. Mahamaya Girls College 120 points. 2. Swarnamahal Balika 36 points. 3. Walala A. Ratnayake Vidyalaya 25 points.

Boys


4 x 400 metres under 15 relay event winners – Trinity College – left of right) C. Kalugampitiya (Master-in-Charge, Navin Rajaratne, Mohamed Inum, H.G. Ariyaratne (Coach), Sahan Hettiarachchi, Ruchika Kumarasinghe, G. Dhanapala and N. Bandula (Officials).

Under 14: (Track): B.K. Munaweera (Trinity 100 metres in 12.9 secs, (field): D.L.I Ratnayake (St.Sylvester’s) long jump 5.02 metres.

Under 15: (Track) R.M. Kumarage 100 metres in 13.5 secs, (field): D.M.I.R. Bandara (Nugawela) – Long Jump 5.27 metres.

Under 20: (Track) P.M.S. Bandara (St.Sylvester’s) 400 metres in 51.6 secs (field) H. Herath (Sri Sumangala) long jump 6.35 metres.

Open (Men): - Track – Dilip Kumar (S.L. Army) 11.5 seconds field: W.H. Dharmasiri (SL Army) Discus – 28 metres.

Women

Under 14 girls (Track) Nethmi Hapuarachchi (Good Shepered Convent 100 metres in 13.5 secs, (field): P. Pilipitiya (Mahamaya) Long Jump 4.77 metres.

Under 15 girls (Track): Methma Athauda (Mahamaya) 100 metres 13.6 secs, (field): Thisari Lokuliyana (Mahamaya) long jump 4.39 metres

Under 20 girls (Track) B. Basnayake (A. Ratnayake Vidyalaya) 400 metres in 57.6 secs (field): Ravina Ranaweera (Mahamaya) long jump 4.62 metres.

Women – (Track): J. Priyadharshani (Sri Rahula) 1,500 metres in 5 mins 18.5 secs, (field): R. Harischandra (Dheerananda) – High Jump 1.60 metres.
 


A record-breaker Nethmi Hapuarachchi of Good Sheperd Convent, Kandy who set a new record in 100 metres under 14 in 13.5 secs beating former record of 13.6 seconds by Akshawa Maralanda of Mahamaya) with her coach S. Vithanage.
