Textile, apparel testing lab in Battaramulla
Intertek, a leading global provider of quality and safety solutions
for a range of industries around the world, plans to open a new textile
and apparel testing laboratory in Battaramulla.
The new lab will serve retailers, brands and manufacturers of adult
apparel, children's apparel, fashion accessories and household textiles.
"Because Intertek has long-standing relationships with many of the
leading global brands and retailers who source and manufacture apparel
in Sri Lanka, the location is ideal for expansion of our textile and
apparel testing capabilities," the company said in a release. "The
apparel industry in Sri Lanka is a major contributor to the country's
economy, representing nearly 40 percent of total exports," said Global
Business Line Leader for Softlines at Intertek, Calvin Yam. Intertek
services ensure that the products of fabric, apparel, fashion accessory,
home textile and footwear retailers, brands and manufacturers meet
safety, regulatory, quality and performance standards.
The new lab would bring the total number of textile and apparel
testing labs in the company's global network to 47 throughout the
Americas, Asia Pacific, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The local
lab would have state-of-the-art equipment for physical and analytical
testing, enabling Intertek to offer a range of services.
