No garbage collection: Council lorries in custody

The Nuwara Eliya city stinks because its Council lorries have been in police custody for the past few days, with the Council drivers too in remand, charged with the alleged killing of a Council labourer, on the orders of the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate.

According to information, the nine suspects have gone on a drinking spree celebrating the permanency of a few employees. During the drinking session near the Lake Gregory, an altercation had ensued among them, which resulted in the killing of 26-year old labourer, V. Susikumar. Nuwara Eliya police later found the body and arrested the suspects.

Further police inquiries are proceeding.
