Tuition classes banned on Sunday mornings
by S.M. Wijayaratne - Kurunegala Corr
It has been observed that many senior school students don't attend
Sunday Dhamma Schools as they attend private tuition classes in urban
areas.
The undue serious competition that exists among students in passing
public examinations, parents too are reluctant to send their children to
Sunday Dhamma schools.
As a result of this most of our children are bankrupt in spiritual
and moral values.
Teenagers have become criminals, thieves, murderers and child
abusers.
There tender minds are polluted with negative thoughts such as
violence, selfishness, hatred, jealousy and taking revenge from their
opponents.
Teachers and elders should inculcate positive attitude in the minds
of these unfortunate child victims", said the chief advisor of
Kurunegala District Sunday Dhamma schools Ven. K. Dhammananda Nayaka
Thera, at a meeting of parents and teachers of Dhamma schools of
Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts held at Bingiriya National school.
However, NWP Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara has now decided to
ban all private tuition classes in the NWP during Sunday morning
sessions.
It is a decision to be admired. The Chief Minister has already
understood that mere academics alone are useless to a country's
progress. Our future generations should be fostered with noble human
values that were taught by our great religious philosophers and founders
of Religions more than two thousand years ago, the Nayaka Thera said.
The Divisional Secretaries of the Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts
of the NWP too were present on that occasion.
